Reading in APII
The APII class, an extension of the first half of the year, is a
requirement if you choose to take the test in May. While this semester
is mostly devoted to familiarizing you with the types of poetry you
will see on the test, we also read a great deal of short fiction. You
can expect to encounter any of the following texts:
The Poetry
In addition to several poetry-related projects, we will hold daily discussions about different poets and their poems. Some of the poets we will study include Emily Dickinson, Elizabeth Bishop, Rita Dove, Gwendolyn Brooks, Sylvia Plath, Wilfred Owen, Langston Hughes, William Blake, Thomas Hardy, William Carlos Williams, e.e. cummings, and T.S. Eliot, to name a few. Though my interests lie more in the Contemporary American poets, I will supplement this list with Metaphysical poets, Romantic poets, and any who can help us understand terms and poetry analysis.
